In terms of document printing times, the MX882 rested squarely in the middle of its competition in most instances. It completed our 20-page all-text document in normal mode in 2 minutes, 22 seconds. That time is about a minute-and-a-half faster than the $169.99 Kodak ESP 5250, but about 30 seconds slower than the $149.99 HP Photosmart Plus. (The ESP 5250 and Photosmart Plus are both similarly priced AIO inkjet printers.) In our mixed-text-and-graphics test,An offshore merchant account, also called a dielectric, the MX882 was once again right in the middle, printing the 10 pages in regular mode in 1 minute and 43 seconds. This time was about 40 seconds faster than the ESP 5250 but 20 seconds slower than the Photosmart Plus.



While the MX882 may be a bit lackluster in terms of its speed in printing documents, it blew the pants off of the competition in our photo-printing tests. It printed our 4x6-inch test photo in regular mode in 20.8 seconds. That's 15 seconds faster than the Photosmart Plus and 21 seconds faster than the ESP 5250. Although the MX882's printing times may have been inconsistent, one place we took no issue with this printer is in quality of output. Print quality, across the board, was excellent for a budget printer. Text was almost laser-quality; we had a hard time finding any flaws at both the normal and high-quality modes. (We saw significantly lighter text in draft mode, but that's to be expected.) Our test photos and mixed-text-and-graphics document looked great in both regular and high-quality modes. Colors were well represented and edges were sharp.

Scanning & Copying Performance



The software's scanner interface proved very simple and straightforward. Scanning was quick, and as we noted earlier, using the ADF, you can scan multiple pages at once, hassle-free. It scanned our one-page black-and-white text document in 10.2 seconds and a our 8.5x11-inch test photo in 16.7 seconds. That's not only faster than other printers in its class, but impressive even compared with much-more-expensive models.

The Pixma MX882 again impressed us with its speedy-for-its-class copy speeds. It reproduced our one-page black-and-white text document in 14.2 seconds and a single page of mixed text and graphics in 15.1 seconds, respectable for a printer in this class.

Conclusion



Sometimes, small offices need an AIO that's a little more rich in features than bare-bones $100 models, but don't want to shell out the $300-plus to get a top-of-the line AIO. For those users, the MX880 is a smart choice.
