A HAMPSHIRE council is to spend 340,000 putting solar panels on its public buildings.



It is also looking into a 10m scheme to put panels on all its council homes.

The Civic Offices,In addition to hydraulics fittings and zentai, town depot and Fareham Leisure Centre, as well as sheltered housing schemes at Downing Court and Barnfield Court, will all be fitted out with the photovoltaic panels in a scheme costing 339,000.



One option was to have the panels fitted free with smaller savings in electricity bills and most of the financial benefits taken by the provider.



But finance chiefs favour the alternative which would see the scheme pay for itself within ten years by generating an annual income of 24,960.



Fareham councillors have decided to look into installing panels on all council housing ¨C but costs could spiral to 10m.



Earlier this year a similar scheme was agreed by Winchester City Council.
